I would like to know what techniques people use to service their belly mower (clean, sharpen blades, ect...) I have my belly deck off the tractor and I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to lift the unit to remove blades. I can jack it up, but its pretty tough to really get it high enough to work underneath to remove the blades. I can grunt it around but thats too tough on my back. No, I don't have a loader to help out. I'm just posting this to see if someone has any great ideas that I haven't thought of.

i use my loader, but i guess you could chain it to your three point lift arms to get it up in the air, remember to put blocks under it when you are working on it , they are heavier than a dead preacher. you could probabley use a three point boom pole on the thing to lift it, i have a carry all, you could lift it with that easily using your three point hitch.

Jim,
I have a 60" JD belly mower. I have used two methods:
1) mower removed: Lift front and lean against a vertical surface.
2) mower installed: jack up front of tractor using a floor jack.

The key to removing the blades is using an impact wrench.
The rest is easy. Right?

I use a pair of car ramps and pull up on them and block the tractor up just in case. work under the deck and use an impact wrench, that is the key. I also have 2 sets of blades, that way i just swap them when i need to. Thats my 2 cents ....

I use an air driven grinder to sharpen the blades right on the mower, being careful to take off equal amounts. I use a face shield a la chain saw protection. ....

I use my backbade to lift it up with a chain around the front. I turn the bladeparallel to the tractor to get the highest lift. I use a belt sander with 60 grit paper to sharpen the blades. I read that technique here on this board. It works great and won't heat the blades enough to lose its heat treating. ....

I park the tractor in a "V" shaped ditch by the roadway with the front and rear of the tractor facing the slopes. This leaves enough room to reach under and remove the blades. Be sure to set the brakes and remove the ignition key. I have noticed that a dry ditch is far more comfortable than a wet one. ....
